Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches

EXCLUSIVE: West Ham star Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches, as his £70m transfer to Man City collapses, three months after Ivan Toney was handed a ban

Lucas Paqueta's summer switch to Manchester City from West Ham is now off

West Ham star Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the Football Association for potential betting breaches, Mail Sport can reveal.

Manchester City were interested in signing Paqueta this summer after approaching his club with a £70million offer, with the Premier League champions said to have increased their interest after the injury to Kevin De Bruyne.

Yet it emerged on Friday morning that talks over the move had collapsed with sources citing ‘confidential’ issues.

It can now be confirmed that the 25-year-old Brazilian is the subject of an FA investigation over allegations of gambling on football. The specifics are yet to be revealed while West Ham nervously wait to see if it will lead to Paqueta being charged by the authorities.

Paqueta impressed in West Ham’s season-opening 1-1 draw at Bournemouth last weekend. He was substituted in the fourth minute of stoppage time, seconds after receiving a yellow card for handling the ball directly from Alphonse Areola's goal-kick.

It remains to be seen if Paqueta will line up against Chelsea at the London Stadium on Sunday following Mail Sport's revelations.

Silly cunt if true.

Just typical West Ham. We won’t get the 80 plus million and the player will probably get a ban as well.

The English federation found that relatives of Paqueta would have bet on matches in which the midfielder of West Ham played. An investigation is underway. The deal at Manchester City is therefore, as revealed, suspended.

its saying that relatives of his have been found to be betting on games he is involved in.

Just checked the betting FA rules and it doesnt cover relatives but it does cover insider betting so unless it is proven that he was passing them information which they were betting on then he will be in the clear

Hammer Lucas Paqueta is under investigation by the FA over gambling allegations. Nothing has been proven as yet but it is rumoured to relate to allegedly betting around yellow cards received by the player while playing for West Ham. This investigation has caused his proposed move to Manchester City to collapse.

What was it, a 94th minute yellow card for deliberate handball?

SSN saying the bets were placed in Brazil

Stating the obvious but this could be a disaster for us, the Toney thing took an age to unfold, so suspect he can play on for some time to come, but really not good at all. But not convinced it's why City didn't up there bid though, too convenient for my liking.

As with most things, let's see what comes out in the wash.

Need to keep working on Kudos and Wahi and the CB.

Man City move for Lucas Paqueta is on hold because of concerns surrounding a FIFA / FA betting investigation. Player is surprised and shocked. Investigation is believed to be about bets that were placed in Brazil, not by him. No bets on his bank statements. £80m deal to City had almost been agreed and could still happen if this issue is cleared up quickly. In the meantime, Paqueta focused and available to play for West Ham as usual.

I actually came around to the idea of losing Paqueta if it gave us a serious wedge and we got a couple of decent players in. But to miss out on the money AND potentially lose our best player for 8 months is so fucking West Ham.

Toney was able to play and continue to score goals for Brentford, whilst the FA conducted their investigation.
You just know Paqueta's will be done by Monday and he will be banned for a year.

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
Betting in another country? Are they just reaching here? Unless they can prove he told someone to bet on him getting a card then surely they can fuck off?

I remember Trippier got banned for telling people he was going to another team. But there was a direct connection.

Toney was actually betting himself I believe.

I just think FA haven’t got a lot of work on..

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
He was booked 8 times for us last season. Earliest booking was the 36th minute, so you'd guess that no-one was betting on him as first to be carded. If it was just for him to get carded at some point in the game then the odds are so small that it's hardly worth it unless massively lumping on.

Re: Lucas Paqueta is being investigated by the FA for potential betting breaches
I suspect that all this shows is thw paranoia the authorities (i.e. the media) have about their big six easily marketable darlings not being a predictable big six any more.

Newcastle (and their money) they can stomach, replace any one from Arsenal, Chelsea or (Alla forbid) Tottenham, but, additionally throw those uppity East End barrow boys into the mix and they'll be flapping arount for cliches they can use every game.
